The history of Littlest Lamb
Child Care Center, Inc.
from Pam Houck, owner.
Littlest Lamb was started in 1987, shortly after the birth of my first daughter, Alex, who is now the Director. I wanted to be able to work outside the home but still be with her. Child Care was the answer to my prayers. All five centers have been gifts from God and are true miracles!
- The first center, Littlest Lamb Child Care Center, Inc., opened February 6, 1980 in Grottoes, Virginia. This center served children ages 2 1/2 - 12. It was licensed to care for 49 children. This center was directed by Roxie Saylor, who has worked for us 18 years. It was sold to Rita Crissman in 1994 and has since closed.
- The second center, Littlest Lamb Early Learning Center, opened in August of 1991 in the Dayton Learning Center. This center served children ages 2 1/2 - 12. It was licensed to care for 89 children. This center was run by my childhood friend, April Stewart Detamore, who worked for us from 1992-1998. It was sold to Teresa Simmons in January 1996 and has since closed.
- The third center, The Very Littlest Lamb Infant & Toddler Center, opened in Dayton, Virginia on June 1, 1993. This one was a dream of mine since, after opening the first center, I found out I could not have my infant daughter with me at the center. The Very Littlest Lamb was licensed for 32 children and was directed by Beth Michael. It sold to the staff in 1995 and is now under the ownership of Anna Hill.
- Our fourth center, Littlest Lamb Child Care Center & Preschool, opened on May 30, 1995 in the renovated Laundromat building on Dices Spring Road in Weyers Cave, Virginia. Littlest Lamb serves children ages 4 weeks - 13 years and is licensed to care for 75 children.
- Our fifth center, Kids Under Construction, located in Waynesboro, Virginia, was sold to Peggy Vaughn from Bears And Blankets in January 2006.
